Council budget defies the odds again

South Ribble Borough Council has defied the odds by freezing council tax, saving taxpayers’ cash and improving front-line services.

The authority has frozen its share of council tax for 2010/11, in spite of increased demand for services, dwindling grant settlements from the Government and the need to make significant savings. Once police and fire authority rises have been taken in to account, the overall increase at 0.4pc is the lowest since council tax was introduced in 1993.
