Benefits
If you rent your home and have a low income you may be entitled to Housing Benefit or Local Housing Allowance to help with your rent. If you pay Council Tax you may also be entitled to help. The amount of benefit you could receive depends on things such as who lives with you, the amount of money you have coming in and the amount of savings you have.
Local Housing Allowance
Local Housing Allowance was introduced nationally from 7 April 2008 and applies to most new claims made by private tenants. Under the new scheme you will receive a standard local housing allowance amount which will be based on the number of bedrooms allowed under LHA regulations for the number of people in the household, your income and savings, and the area in which you rent your property.
