Area Committees

SOUTH Ribble's area committees have been revamped to improve how the council engages with residents. The council has looked in detail at its area committee arrangements through speaking to partners and local groups, gathering feedback from local people and linking with councils up and down the country to learn new and innovative ways to engage with residents in their neighbourhoods.

As a result of this work the council is set to breathe new life into its area committees.

The council's six new-look area committees are now friendly, informal forums at which local people can raise issues and discuss concerns with their ward councillors and representatives of other organisations about their neighbourhoods.

Each Area Committee:

  • Meets six times a year on dates that are easy to remember. Efforts are made to ensure meetings are as short and succinct as possible.
  • Has its own budget to spend on local projects.
  • Is developing its own identity within the community it serves and more is being done to publicise the work of each.

As a pilot, councillor surgeries will be held before the West Leyland and Central Area Committee meetings so that local people with an individual issue or concern can speak directly to their ward councillors outside of the area committee itself. The Police will be invited to attend these surgeries so that residents can speak to their local police officer on a one-to-one basis.

To find out more about your local area committee just follow one of the links below.

The council publishes agendas and minutes for all of its public meetings online. This includes the minutes and agendas for area committee meetings.

If you require any further information on your area committee please contact your relevant area coordinator or administrator. If you have any general enquiries please contact the democratic services team on (01772) 625308 or email: democraticservices@southribble.gov.uk
