Come on over to MY PLACE

My Place is all about taking pride in your neighbourhood. To do so, you need community spirit - and there are loads of ways to get it..

You could:

  • Tell us what makes you proud in our My Place discussion forum
  • Make an effort to get to know your neighbours better
  • Take pride in your home and garden (beautiful gardens, yards and patios make South Ribble look great)
  • Pledge to pick up any litter you might see outside your home
  • Attend some of the events and activities that take place all year round in your local parks, open spaces and community centres
  • If you own a dog you could make sure you always clear up after it has fouled, and encourage other dog walkers to do the same.
  • Join or set up a local group
  • Become a volunteer
  • Help out a local charity
  • Attend your area committee, where you can meet your local councillors, keep abreast of issues that are truly local to your area, and influence decisions that affect your neighbourhood.

Whatever you choose to do, we want to know about it! So if you have a story that demonstrates how you, your neighbours or a group you belong to are taking pride in your local area, community and environment, simply email us and you could see it appear in a future edition of FORWARD.

Similarly, if you know of an upcoming event in South Ribble and you'd like some help promoting it, just visit our events section, fill in our form and we'll include the details on this website.

I'm feeling proud... what do I do next?

If you're feeling proud - you're in the right place! This section of our website is designed to give you all the tools and information you need to start making a difference, no matter how big or small, to your neighbourhood:

  • Come on over to My Place: read about the My Place roadshows we held last year and how the feedback we obtained from local people is helping to improve services and facilities in local neighbourhoods.
  • Find your community hero: read about some of the proud people who make a vital contribution to the running of your neighbourhood - and if you know any community heroes near you, tell us about them!
  • See what young people think of your place: watch the winning film from our Pride in My Place short film competition, which we ran in conjunction with Runshaw College
  • Start in your own back yard: marvel at the winning entries from our prize garden competition
  • Get the picture: Check out the winning photo from our Pride in My Place photography competition
  • Support your local events: see what's on in your place, and let us know about any events we've missed
