You’ve been framed! Top artwork on display in Leyland

'Best in Show' winner, Hollie Reed, from Penwortham Girls' High School

South Ribble’s budding artists were honoured for their ‘masterstrokes’ at the annual High Schools’ Art Exhibition & Awards.

Now in its 40th year, the exhibition at the South Ribble Museum and Exhibition Centre has showcased thousands of pieces of art during its successful history.

This week, around 200 pupils and their proud families packed out St Andrew’s Parish Church, Leyland, to watch the Mayor of South Ribble, Councillor Mick Titherington, hand out prizes to the exciting young talents.

Dr David Hunt, curator at South Ribble Museum & Exhibition Centre, said: “The High Schools’ Art Exhibition is just as old as the museum itself – they’ve both been going for 40 years – so it just shows how integral it is to the fabric of what we do.

“Past winners have gone on to achieve amazing things in the art world – so it really is a stepping stone to greater success.

“The exhibition is open until Saturday 24 March, and I would urge everyone to come and take a look at some of the simply outstanding pieces of art that our young people have produced this year."

For a second year running, the winner of ‘Best in Show’ came from Penwortham Girls’ High School – 15-year-old Hollie Reed.

Since the exhibition and awards began in 1978, around 15,000 pupils have had their art displayed.
