Local Land Charges Service
A local land charge is a search of the information held in the:
- local land charge register
register of common land, towns and village greens
A local land charge search should be carried out when you buy a property or piece of land to check for any legal restrictions. There is a cost incurred.
A local land charge search is in 2 parts:
LLC1 search
This deals with all charges that are on the registers.
It is an official requisition for a search in the local land charges register.
The certificate is signed by the authorised council officer.
Please note: we are unable to search plot numbers; you must provide us with a full postal address.
CON29 searches
This deals with issues that affect the property. It can include planning history, road schemes and enforcement notices.
There are 2 parts to the CON29:
CON29 is the standard information about the issues that affect the property
CON29O is for optional information — a chance to ask more questions as set out in the form
Local Land Charges - Personal Searches
Land Charges Register
You can carry out a personal search of the Land Charges Register for free, which can be made by visiting the council's offices. This service is available as follows:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursdays - 9am - 3pm
- Wednesdays - 10am - 3pm
- No searches on Fridays
You need to book an appointment by phone or e-mail, at least 2 days in advance of the time you wish to inspect the register. Plans need to be provided to the Land Charges Clerk prior to your appointment. Please note we are unable to search plot numbers, you must provide us with a full postal address.
If you require sight of the enforcement register, please notify the Land Changes clerk at the time of booking your appointment.
Any additional addresses which are added to your appointment, must be submitted to land charges by 12 noon the previous day.
Please note there is a limit of 6 addresses per visit.
Please note a Personal Search does not provide as much information as a Full Search.

Please note: It is the responsibility of the person carrying out the personal search to identify the land/property and to make a note of information held on the register. South Ribble Borough Council doesn't have an obligation to answer any supplementary questions when a person is making a personal search.
How long does it take to complete a search?
We normally take up to 10 working days to complete and return a search request.
We may take longer if we get lots of requests in a single 10 working-day period.
There is no option to speed up the process time.
However, we will try to accommodate urgent requests if possible.
