Scheduled elections: Local Elections, 2 May 2019

The following elections are scheduled to take place on Thursday 2 May 2019:

South Ribble Borough Council (50 Councillors)
Penwortham Town Council (18 Councillors)
Farington Parish (8 Councillors)
Hutton Parish Council (7 Councillors)
Little Hoole Parish Council (7 Councillors)
Longton Parish Council (12 Councillors)
Much Hoole Parish Council (8 Councillors)
Samlesbury & Cuerdale Parish Council (9 Councillors)

To stand as a candidate at a local government election you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of any member state of the European Union, and
  • must meet at least one of the following four qualifications:
    1. You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the local authority area in which you wish to stand from the day of your nomination onwards.
    2. You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the local authority area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of the election.
    3. Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of your nomination and the day of the election has been in the local authority area.
    4. You have lived in the local authority area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of the election.

Borough candidates must obtain the signature of 10 electors (known as subscribers), all of whom must be on the electoral register for the ward in which the candidate plans to stand.

Town and Parish Council candidates need signatures from only 2 electors.

Nomination papers must be delivered by hand to the Returning Officer at the following address:

The dates that nomination papers can be delivered are between 10am to 4pm each day from Thursday 21st March up to the close of nominations at 4pm on Wednesday 3rd April. NOTE: please avoid delivering nomination papers on Monday 25th March as the relevant staff members appointed to deal with nominations are unavailable.

Due to the large volume of nomination papers expected it would be beneficial to contact us before you visit the council offices to ensure that we can see you in a timely manner.

We would recommend that candidates attend the Candidate & Agent briefing to at 6pm on Monday 8th April to be held in the Shield Room at the Civic Centre.
