Stray dogs

If you find a stray dog you should try to return it to the owner or request that the council collects it.
We will pick up any stray dogs found in South Ribble and attempt to find the owner by checking for dog tags and microchips.  If a dog is found during office hours and the owner can be traced, the dog will be returned and a fixed penalty notice of £100 will be issued.

If the owner cannot be found, or the dog has been collected out of office hours, we will arrange for the dog to be taken to our nominated kennels.  Any dog taken to the kennels will be held for seven days so that the owner can reclaim it.  Any owner collecting their dog from our kennels will be required to pay a release fee of £145.  If a dog is not collected by the owner after seven days the kennels will arrange for the dog to be rehomed.

If you are a dog owner, you should make sure your dog has identification.  By law, your dog should have a collar and identity tag with owner's name and address. We also advise including a landline and mobile phone number.
