Council planning officers visit pupils at St Mary's Catholic High School in Leyland

Two of our planning officers dropped in on pupils at St Mary's Catholic High School in Leyland last week.

The session — which was originally billed as a 'Careers in Geography' session — actually touched on a plethora of different topics: town planning, the role of council planning officers, and the industrial revolution and its effect on big cities like Manchester and, closer to home, Leyland.

Thousands of people descended on Hough Lane, Leyland, on Saturday 24 November for the annual Christmas Festival and lights switch-on – this year presided over by celebrity guest Danny Miller, the award-winning actor and Emmerdale star.

The festival – funded, organised and run by South Ribble Borough Council and Leyland Town Team – began at 2pm and lasted until 6.30pm, with Danny hitting the big red button at 5.30pm.

‘You better be-leaf it’: Magic, mazes and micropubs at Worden Autumn Market

Temperatures may have fallen in recent weeks but Leylanders’ spirits couldn’t help but be lifted over the weekend as they flocked to a special artisan market.

Hundreds of residents from around South Ribble descended on Worden Park in Leyland on Sunday 28 October for South Ribble Borough Council’s chill-defying ‘Worden Autumn Market’.
