Councillor James Flannery announced as Cabinet Member for Planning, Business Support and Regeneration

Councillor James Flannery

Following the tragic passing of Councillor Bill Evans earlier this month, Councillor James Flannery will now take the place of Cabinet Member for Planning, Business Support and Regeneration with immediate effect.

Councillor Flannery will stand down from his post as Chair of the Licensing and Public Safety Committee and will be replaced by Councillor Jacky Alty. Councillor Flannery also sits on Planning Committee and will continue to do so alongside his new appointment.

Councillor Paul Foster, Leader of South Ribble Borough Council said, "It feels strange to be making decisions like this so soon after the tragic passing of our friend and colleague Bill Evans, however Bill put in motion so many exciting things for the borough during his time on Cabinet, not least spearheading the incredible Leyland Town Deal, and that work must continue.

"Councillor Flannery is dedicated to continuing the legacy left in the role by Bill and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to drive forward projects which will be of great benefit to the borough and its residents."

Councillor James Flannery said, "I'm so proud to be able to take on this role on the Cabinet. Bill brought so much passion, knowledge, and experience to the role. I will strive to maintain the standards set by Bill. He was a great man who will be missed by many"

"I look forward getting started and working with my fellow Cabinet members, council officers and residents to drive our exciting plans forward."

Councillor Flannery is also appointed as Chair of the Local Plan Member Working Group, member of the Leyland Town Deal Board and the Central Lancashire Strategic Planning Joint Advisory Committee.

The next meeting of the Cabinet will take place on 23 March 2022.
